Challenge-based projects

Challenge-based education offers students and teachers the opportunity to make a real impact. In international teams, you work on current societal issues and regional challenges around the theme of ‘resilience’, such as climate adaptation, social inclusion, or digital transformation. These are short, intensive programs that combine online and in-person collaboration, and in most cases, funding is available through Erasmus+ (e.g., BIPs – Blended Intensive Programmes).
Students learn through practice, develop relevant skills, and receive a HEROES certificate. Teachers receive support and training to integrate this innovative form of education into their curriculum.

Businesspeople planning tasks with sticky notes

In HEROES, challenge-based learning gives you the chance to work on something that truly matters. Students and teachers come together in international teams to solve real societal and regional challenges linked to resilience — from climate adaptation and social inclusion to digital transformation.

These are short, dynamic learning experiences that blend online preparation with hands-on teamwork on site. Many of them are supported by Erasmus+ funding through Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs).

As a student, you learn through practice: exploring real problems, co-creating solutions with experts, developing valuable skills, and receiving a HEROES Certificate for your achievement.

As a teacher, you gain support, training, and a community for integrating this innovative approach into your teaching, while strengthening connections with partners in your region and across Europe.

If you’re an organisation and would like students to work on your real-life challenge, you’re warmly invited to join our HEROESFriends Programme — a place where companies, NGOs, schools, public institutions, and individuals can collaborate with our alliance.
